For the First Time Ever, There is a Video of the Planet Mars Rendered in 4K - Interesting Engineering

The footage has been made from images captured by the three most successful rovers.

People often wonder why we don't have live video from the planet Mars. We have sent spacecraft there after all and received back data.

Although all the spacecraft sent to Mars had high-quality cameras, the rate at which the rovers can send data back to Earth is problematic. Curiosity, for instance, can only send data at 32 kilo-bits per second.

When the rover can connect to the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, better speeds of 2 Megabits per second can be achieved. This connection, however, is only available for 8 minutes each Martian day.

All this means that sending video footage from the planet would take an enormous amount of time. Since everything on the planet is static regardless, it is only logical to send images.

Lucky for us, ElderFox Documentaries used images from the most successful rovers Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity, to render Mars in 4K for the first time. The end result is both beautiful and inspiring.

The video even has all the names that NASA has given to different regions of the planet so you can know exactly what you are looking at. If you're curious as to how the team made this impressive video, they also explain that throughout the video.
