Performances begin February 24 at The Duke on 42nd Street for the world premiere of Don Nguyen’s play Hello, From the Children of Planet Earth, a new play about the oddities of human conception and the wonder of space travel. The Playwrights Realm production will officially open Off-Broadway March 7.
Jade King Carroll directs a cast made up of Kaaron Briscoe, Dana Berger, Jeffrey Omura, Jon Hoche, and Olivia Oguma.
Split between the perspectives of lesbian couple Betsy (Briscoe) and Shoshana (Berger), who are trying to conceive, and their potential sperm donor/aerospace engineer friend William (Omura), Hello, From the Children of Planet Earth explores what happens when we face the vastness of our future and when dreams give way to realism.
Performances are scheduled through March 24.
Nguyen was part of The Playwrights Realm’s Writing Fellowship in the 2012–13 season. The Off-Broadway theatre company was behind the recent acclaimed world premieres of Sarah DeLappe’s The Wolves and Michael Yates Crowley’s The Rape of the Sabine Women, By Grace B. Matthias.
The creative team for Hello, From the Children of Planet Earth is made up of Kimie Nishikawa (set designer), Nicole Pearce (lighting designer), Elisheba Ittoop (sound designer), and Ari Fulton (costume designer). Kara Kaufman is production stage manager, and Lily Perlmutter is assistant stage manager.
