- Sir David Attenborough was telling a story about 7,000 rubber ducks in the sea
- Some 250 yellow ducks could be seen in the ocean and fans were left confused
- They wondered if they were 'real' and the show confirmed they were put there
Blue Planet II has been embroiled in a fresh fakery storm after its film crew admitted placing 250 rubber ducks in the ocean which were supposedly from a ship.
The bright yellow plastic toys could be seen bobbing up and down in the Pacific Ocean just off the coast of Costa Rica.
Just moments before, Sir David Attenborough, 91, told viewers that 7,000 plastic toys ended up in the water after falling from a ship during a storm in 1992.
He said the items were still being found around the world and disgruntled fans took to Twitter to voice their anger about the scene.

Fan Jon Schwarm posted online: 'I'm not being funny, you can't tell me you didn't put those rubber ducks in the sea yourself, deffo not buying that one'
They were complaining that the show made out they had found the ducks in the sea, reports The Sun. Other fans hoped the show had not 'staged' the scene.

Sam Archer added: 'So whose job was it to follow the yellow ducks around for 15 years then?'
Simon Helliwell said: 'Please tell me the rubber ducks weren't staged whatsoever.'
Luke Clark added: 'Is David Attenborough mugging me off with those rubber ducks?'
Char Rose Hagel wrote: 'Not an expert but I don't think those ducks were real...'
Twitter user @jannmcd said: 'Are these the original rubber ducks we're seeing on #BluePlanet or is this some type of reconstruction for the viewers advantage?'
But David Barrett said the scene was 'great' and wrote: 'Blue planet 2 absolutely fab last night. The story about the Plastic ducks great. A Plastic pollution solution has to be come up with.'
But the show has now confirmed they were all placed there and that they had 'picked up all 250 ducks' after filming the part for the popular show.
It confirmed that they 'reconstructed' the release of 250 ducks and said it was 'ironic' they were putting plastic into the ocean during a scene about pollution.
Filmmaker Sarah Conner posted on Twitter: 'Jack Delf & Team picked up all 250 ducks after filming them with the drone in the Pacific off Costa Rica & Karu_Sums counted them all back.'
A BBC online blog referred to the story of the bath toys which fell into the ocean in January 1992.
It said: 'Over the years, the ducks washed up on several different continents, revealing a worldwide network of currents, that had been invisible.
'The duck's story led to a greater understanding of how all our seas are connected and seemed, to the Blue Planet II team, an inspiring story to re-tell.
'Over the next 25 years, the plastic toys washed up all over the world.

Blue Planet II fan Simon Helliwell wrote online that he was hoping the duck scene was not 'staged whatsoever'
'Many landed on the coast of Alaska, some went south to Australia, and remarkably some even went through the Arctic ice via the Bering Straits, to pop up in the Atlantic years later.
'Reconstructing the release of these ducks presented the team with a fresh challenge.
'While we wanted to tell their story, the team was also well aware of the ironies of putting plastic ducks in the sea.
'We were used to removing plastic from the ocean, and if we were to introduce any ourselves, we'd need to be very careful to make sure every single one was collected again afterwards.
'To film the re-enactment of the release was the biggest challenge, as part of it meant we'd need aerial drone footage of all 250 of them floating in the middle of the open ocean, and most importantly collect all 250 again.'
