With some of the year's spectacular celestial events lined up this month, March has for sure been a treat for stargazers. But you best believe that the Venus-Jupiter conjunction, the Worm Moon, and the March Equinox have just whet your appetite for the grand finale is yet to come.
On the evening of March 28, Jupiter, Mercury, Uranus, Mars and Venus are expected to line up together in a small section of the sky shortly after sunset. The planets will appear closer to one another from Earth in a limited area as they align in a 50-degree sky sector and form an arc.
Venus and Jupiter, which are both very bright and easy to pick out, have already been huddled together over the past few weeks. Mars is a bit fainter but will still be easily observable with the naked eye.
To see Mercury, you will need to be at a dark site with a clear view of the horizon if you want to see Mercury. And Uranus will be the faintest and hardest to see, and you'll need a pair of binoculars or a telescope to view it.
As for the order of the arrangement, Jupiter and Mercury will be closer to the horizon, while Mars will be next to the moon. Venus will be nearby and Uranus will appear as a "greenish star" above the moon.
The planetary parade will be visible from anywhere on Earth, but those in the Northern Hemisphere will be able to see it better — which means India could get a stunning view of the event.
While two or three planets aligning in the sky is not unusual, the conjunction of five of them is less common. The last time this event occurred was in 2022, the first time since December 2004.
And last year, stargazers in the northern hemisphere had the amazing opportunity to gaze at Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn simultaneously. However, these events differ from astronomical alignments, where planets come together simultaneously on the same side of the Sun.
