he most valuable resource we have as humans is time, yet there isn’t enough of it. On other planets, time passes more quickly or more slowly according to the laws of physics. The average life expectancy of the newly discovered possibly habitable planet, which is 100 light-years from Earth, would be 9,943 years. This is due to the fact that time there moves far more slowly than it does on Earth.
A multidisciplinary team of researchers, under the direction of astronomer Laetitia Delrez, have found two planets circling the star TOI-4306. About 6.5 times smaller and half as hot as our sun is TOI-4306.
The name of the first planet is TOI-4306b or LP 890-9b. It is around 30% bigger than Earth and takes about 2.7 days to complete an orbit around its star. Currently, a person on Earth lives 73.5 years on average. Because of its incredibly small orbit, TOI-4306b has a year that is much shorter than typical, giving it an average life expectancy of 9,943 years.
This planet is about 40% larger than Earth and has an orbital period of around 8.5 days. So if you were to live on this planet, you may have up to 3,158 birthdays. It also suggests that LP 890-9c may be habitable given that TOI-4306 is such a cool star and that the planet is closer to its star than Mercury is to the sun.
One of the researchers, Francisco J. Pozuelos, who contributed to the writing of the report regarding these planets and assisted in their publication in the Astronomy and Astrophysics journal, explained:
“Although this planet orbits very close to its star, at a distance about 10 times shorter than that of Mercury around our sun, the amount of stellar irradiation it receives is still low and could allow the presence of liquid water on the planet’s surface, provided it has a sufficient atmosphere. This is because the star LP 890-9 is about 6.5 times smaller than the sun and has a surface temperature half that of our star. This explains why LP 890-9c, despite being much closer to its star than the Earth is to the sun, could still have conditions that are suitable for life.”
Francisco J. Pozuelos
All of this suggests that there may be life on these far-off planets, maybe even more complex life forms that have remained hidden because of our violent nature and their capacity to survive for such a long time. We’ll confirm any indications of life on these worlds later after we’ve done a further investigation.
Furthermore, it also portrays that humans are not meant to be limited to only 100 years of life. The perception of time is still hard to grasp for humans, despite all the research that has been done. Knowing that time moves at a different pace on different planets does.
