Desert Dazers Play 'Truth & Dare' With Planet Earth - Forbes

Ah, you come for the tunes and end up face-to-face with Planet Earth. The experience is courtesy of the green nonprofit folks from Global Inheritance, who’ve been doing this kind of thing for years: injecting environmental awareness and action into music.

And why not? If you’re going to a concert, you might as well learn something or be inspired (beyond the songs, refreshments and, er, smells in the air).

Global Inheritance was at the three-day Desert Daze music festival earlier this week in Lake Perris, California, with a polygraph machine.

Part of a crime investigation? Well, the lineup included The War on Drugs. But no, this polygraph was used in a search for sustainability, with participants facing off against a representation of Planet Earth, complete with a globe for a head.

“Global Inheritance’s Truth & Dare brings people face-to-face with Planet Earth, who questions them about their personal environmental habits and behaviors,” says Eric Ritz, executive director and co-founder of Global Inheritance.

“Participants are connected to a polygraph machine and interviewed by a physical manifestation of the planet who sits across the table. The sequence of questions and answers aim to highlight how our behaviors have a direct effect on the environment and capture the level of honesty in the discussion about those behaviors.”

Those who tell the truth are entered to win passes for Desert Daze 2022, along with VIP upgrades, band merchandise and more.

“Once you complete your polygraph test, you will be asked to commit to and accomplish a dare,” Ritz explains.

“Dares reflect the truthfulness of the answers you shared on the polygraph machine.”

Planet Earth dares people to commit to behavioral changes like giving up single-use plastic for a week or taking public transit to work for a month, according to program blog.

The program was made possible with support from Poshmark and Desert Daze organizers.

“We received an incredible response from the program,” Ritz adds.

“Also, a good mix of people participated. Guys were especially interested in participating, which isn’t always the case at a music festival when you’re producing interactive environmental programming.”

Adblock test (Why?)
