Three local entities have teamed up to throw a week-long party in the local community centered around education.
Party for the Planet got underway Monday and is a virtual adaptation of the annual David Traylor Zoo Earth Day celebration of the same name. This year's party has been organized by Mobilizing Literacy, Emporia Public Library and the zoo.
Mobilizing Literacy Liaison Jodi Case says the event includes numerous live videos on Facebook with a different lesson and topic each day. Case says organizers did not want the event to be a "one and done" activity.
Case says the partnership between all three organizations made perfect sense as even though they all have different missions, they are all dedicated to helping young children learn.
Party for the Planet will continue through Friday with a different set of activities taking place each day. Additionally, Mobilizing Literacy is providing a free book for families all week.
For more information on activities and where you can pick up your free book visit Mobilizing Literacy, the David Traylor Zoo or Emporia Public Library's Facebook pages.
