Readers respond: Don't give up on fight for planet - OregonLive.com

To make a difference we all have to come together and stand for what we believe is right. We need to give back to this planet that is decaying from pollution we created. It is a despairing thought to know as fact: that the prevailing vote for House Bill 2883, a ban on polystyrene, was “no.”

Sen. Lee Beyer, Sen. Floyd Prozanski, and Sen. James Manning had our backs on the Senate floor. Yet the vote failed. We needed one more vote to win and it is disappointing that we didn’t.

Yes, we will keep fighting to ban polystyrene (Styrofoam). However, it is very important that more supportive people stand with us so we can ban polystyrene and start rebuilding a healthy environment on a exuberant foundation. As a human fighting to save the environment, I have witnessed firsthand the people’s desire to help save the planet. So, I know this isn’t a lost cause and that is exactly why we cannot give up.
