Official Secrets
Following its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, IFC Films has paid $2 million for the U.S. rights to the politically charged thriller “Official Secrets” starring Keira Knightley and Ralph Fiennes.

Gavin Hood helms the story of a British whistleblower who leaked documents to the press. Her goal was to expose an illegal U.S./U.K. spying operation in the lead-up to the Iraq War that she hoped would lead citizens to question the rationale for the invasion. IFC previously bought Jennifer Kent’s “The Nightingale” in the lead-up to the festival. [Source: Variety]

Child’s Play
Ahead of the premiere of the trailer this Friday, MGM and Orion have released a viral video tied to the “Child’s Play” remake, the clip teasing the arrival of the all-new ‘Buddi’ doll. Aubrey Plaza and Brian Tyree Henry star.

Plaza plays a mother who gives her son Andy (Gabriel Bateman) an advanced toy doll for his birthday, unaware of its more sinister nature. Tyler Burton Smith wrote the screenplay for the new take which opens June 21st.

Wasp Network
Orange Studio has hopped onboard Olivier Assayas’ Cuban spy thriller “Wasp Network” starring Penelope Cruz, Gael Garcia Bernal, Edgar Ramirez and Wagner Moura. Charles Gillibert and Rodrigo Teixeira are producing and filming begins on location in Cuba in two weeks.

The true story tale follows Cuban spies in American territory during the 1990s, when anti-Castro groups based in Florida carried out military attacks on Cuba and the Cuban government struck back with the Wasp Network to infiltrate those organizations. [Source: Variety]
