Destroying planet tomorrow for a hamburger today

opinion

As the stalwart man, naked from the waist up, stands triumphant over the massive tree, he raises his carbon dioxide-emitting three-foot chain saw.

He and his crew have just denuded 500 acres of oxygen-emitting, carbon dioxide-absorbing jungle so some one-percenter can raise carbon dioxide-emitting cattle.

Fires emitting carbon dioxide burn behind him as most of the trees were not lumberyard worthy.

His tree awaits a huge diesel-powered machine which revs up billowing smoke filled with carbon dioxide as it grasps the felled tree and pulls it through a nightmare of blades to remove all limbs.

It can do 40 man-hours of work in one hour. So what if it emits a hundred times the carbon dioxide? So what if the felling and trimming of the last tree emits sounds like the death of the helpless creatures of those 500 acres?

Global economy is demanding more beef. It will take years for the carbon dioxide to thin the atmosphere enough to kill humanity, and tickets to Mars are expensive.
