The internet has been alive with conspiracy theory claims the Nibiru or Planet X system is heading towards Earth, and will trigger a global apocalypse from Sunday, November 19.
So-called Nibiru truthers claim NASA is at the heart of a global elite conspiracy to hide the truth from the general population while they seek refuge inn secret underground bunkers.
The Nibiru myth emerged in 1976, when writer Zecharia Sitchin claimed two ancient Middle Eastern cultures, the Babylonians and Sumerians, told of a giant planet dubbed Nibiru which orbited the Sun.
And the Nibiru or Planet X theory claims a mini solar system consisting of a sun, planets and moons is lurking in space on the edge of our system with a huge 3,600 miles orbit of the sun.
They say the planet will cause the poles to switch, sparking great earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
After nothing happened in October - when it was originally supposed to hit - believers now claim it will be on an approach path with the Earth between November 19 and December 20.
Nibiru believers are convinced the "rogue system" is making its way from the outer solar system inwards, where it will wreak havoc on Earth as it passes at about four million miles away.
After remaining tight-lipped about the outrageous conspiracy theory, top NASA scientists have moved to quash the rumours.
The Seti Institute website features a Big Picture Science Radio Show, which broadcast an episode called "Skeptic Check: Nibiru! (Again!)"
A blurb for the show says: "Will your calendar entry for November 19th be your last?
"Some people say yes, predicting a catastrophic collision between Earth and planet Nibiru on that date and the end of the world.
"But it won’t happen, because this hypothesised rogue world doesn’t exist."
David Morrison, an astronomer at NASA Ames Research Center, said on the show: "You’re asking me for a logical explanation of a totally illogical idea.
“There is no such planet, there never has been, [and] presumably there never will be.
"This year alone, the Nibiru doomsday date has been updated twice: the apocalypse was originally scheduled for September 23, moved to October 21, and now, the powers that be have settled on November 19.
"Honestly, if Nibiru is real — which it definitely isn’t — it sounds like a massive flake."
The complete denial by NASA is, however, unlikely to stop the Nibiru myth, and new dates being set if nothing happens on Sunday.
Conspiracy theorists claim the latest NASA statements are all part of the cover up before Nibiru passes.
NASA does believe there is a new huge planet called Planet 9 at the edge of the solar system, but that it will not come anywhere near Earth.
